Abstract

Nude sculpture established itself as an autonomous genre in the national art lately, only in the first decades of the 20th century. Alexandru Plamadeala interprets nude in a complex manner, stylistically varying between romanticism, realism and modernism, absorbing the Western and Russian trends. Moisei Cogan in his creativity tends to eclecticism and modernism. Lazăr Dubinovschi is inspired by the works of Emile Antoine Bourdelle. Iosif Cheptănaru interprets nude at the intersection of cultures. The creative activity of Iurie Canaşin has a conceptual beginning in the overall development of world art. Constantin C. Constantinov interprets psychological aspects in nude. Ion Bolocan reduces the stylized and generalized form to a laconic image. Ioan Grecu retualizes the world’s artistic heritage. Dumitru Verdianu searches for the internal psychological “balance” in his compositions. Grigore Sultan creates the internal logic in his nudes. Ion Zderciuc advocates the internal bipolar harmony in his images of couples in love. The perception of the theoretical and practical achievements of the great European masters practicing modernism and eclecticism became the inicial point for the sculptors of the Republic of Moldova, who always interpret nudes in an original and inspired way.
